October 2011

The 2011 team has recently returned from Kenya after spending an incredible month in Nairobi. And we would like to take this opportunity just to thank all of you for helping us make it happen. We thank you for your time, your generous donations and also for your help. As we were leaving, our Kenyan students asked us to pass on this message:
Please, say hello to all of your friends and family and may God bless every one of you for the great work you are doing.

Profiles - Marvin Wamukota Wanjala
As promised in our previous newsletter,we are going to be introducing people, who have been a tremendous asset to our program. Today, we would like to introduce you to Marvin, member of the Strathmore teaching team.

Marvin joined Sauder Africa Initiative in the summer of 2009 and is with us till this day. He is a CPA (Certified Public Accountant) graduate of Strathmore University and he is also in the final year at Kenyatta University, Nairobi, studying for Bachelor of Economics and Finance degree. When you talk to him, he is always very well mannered, humble and above all, always smiling. We cannot imagine how the SE101 post-program would function without Marvin being involved. If you want to find a mutual topic, football it is - Marvin is a Manchester United fan. And if you want to know how he feels about the Sauder Africa Initiative, read his testimonial.

Fundraising efforts
The 2011 team has fundraised approximately 10,000 CAD but the job is not done yet. We are preparing a big celebration / fundraiser event at the beginning of November, check out our web for any upcoming events or contact us any time at info@africa.sauder.ubc.ca if you want to be updated on which fundraiser is coming up. Your attendance will not only help our project but you will also have a great possibility to meet interesting people and broaden your network.

Did you know?
That Kenya is one of the countries with the highest cell phone penetration in the world? And that the cost for a phone call from Kenya to Canada is approximately 3 cents per minute?
